"I only hope that we never lose sight of one thing -- that it all started with a mouse." - Walt Disney
If you've stumbled across our page here at the Everyday Magic Blog, I'd be willing to wager that you are already a Disney enthusiast -- which is awesome, you're one of us!
But let me ask you this: when is the last time you sought out Walt's old pal, Mickey? More to the point, when is the last time you watched an animated feature or short starring Mickey? Chances are it has been quite a while, unless you have children who watch Disney's House of Mouse on the Disney Channel. Scratch that. I suppose most of us have seen Disney's Frozen by now, which did feature an updated version of the animated short "Get a Horse" (there will be a special post all about this short in the near future, so stay tuned!). But even then, it's not like any of us went to the movie theatre just to see that short -- most of us didn't even know it was coming, let alone plan our day around it.
The simple, and somewhat regrettable truth is that most of us overlook Mickey when we think of the latest in Disney trends. Of course we do not forget Mickey consciously, for it would take a special kind of ignorance to not realize his role in all of this, but we must admit that in the modern Disney era, the princess reigns supreme. Okay not until she is coronated as the queen, but -- ok, ok, forgive the bad joke. You do get my point, though right?
In the future, you can expect to see a feature article dedicated to the great Mickey Mouse where we will tell you all about Mickey's history and impact on the Disney Corporation. We will share what he represents and a fun philosophy regarding "Sorcerer Mickey," (though depending on how things go, that in itself could be a feature article!). But for now, we leave you with this week's Disney Challenge.
This week, make time for Walt's old pal, Mickey. Remember, Mickey is really everyone's pal. Watch one of his feature films, or a handful of his short films. Bonus points to you if you watch something Walt had a hand in, or lent his voice to. Or, simply sit down with your kids next time they want to watch Disney's House of Mouse and enjoy the magic together. After all, that was another of Walt's many visions, but we will get into that another time. Let us know what you watch in the comment section below, and please share our blog on social media!
Thanks for reading, and please keep an eye out for our future posts! We'll announce just about everything we do across social media (Pinterest, Instagram, and Twitter) where you can find us @everydaymagic28. In the words of our pal Mickey, "see ya reel soon!"
