Tip of the Week: Plan Topiary Pictures Around the Sun

With the Flower and Garden Festival wrapping up over at Epcot pretty soon (ends May 18), we decided to post about the festival this week. Our assumption is that visitors to Epcot will want to take pictures of the amazing topiaries. To get the best photos, you need to have ideal lighting; when the sun goes down, you won’t be able to capture the natural beauty of the plants. I never got a good shot of the Snow White or Lion King topiaries for that reason!

Now, I’m no professional photographer but I know that early morning and late afternoon provide the best light for pictures, and you always want the sun's light at your back. If there are any specific topiaries you want to see and photograph, make sure you visit them then. Most are located in World Showcase, but there are a few sprinkled around Future World. You’ll want to make sure to plan your day around the sun to get the best photos possible.

From the center of the park, Spaceship Earth is north. Use that reference point when planning your day. You don’t want to sprint from Soarin’ over to the Italy pavilion just to photograph Lady and Tramp before the sun goes down! Do yourself a favor and plan ahead if you have any must-get topiary pictures. And remember, if that list is long, you may need two days to capture great shots of all of them.
