Foodie Friday: Ice Cream Macaron

Well friends, I hate to say it, but there is something at Walt Disney World that I’m not crazy about: ice cream macarons from the France pavillion. Really, I could extend that to the macarons in general, but I do try to be specific. I should give the disclaimer that I work in a fancy cafe and we serve freshly baked pastries, including French macarons. So, I get tasty macarons regularly. In fact, I had one today.
But back to Disney. I had read about the ice cream macaron sandwiches online prior to my trip last March. I was pumped, to say the least. Macaron shells filled with ice cream from l’Artisan de Glace. It sounded too good to be true, and it was.
The shells were kept in the fridge, and the ice cream made them even colder. Since they were cold, the macarons were stiff and chewy, not the soft, fluffy stuff they should have been. Had the shells not been cold to start with, it likely would have been a much better experience.
But, it was chocolate, and cold on a hot day, so I didn’t turn my nose up at it entirely. I’m probably just spoiled, and most people probably would have zero complaints about ice cream macarons. Nonetheless, those are my thoughts.
Just stick with the delicious ice cream from l’Artisan de Glace, and if you want a pastry, head back to Les Halles Boulangerie Patisserie.
