Tip of the Week: Locker Rental

Just go ahead and rent the locker, for goodness sake. Or rather, for your back’s sake! When you’re in the parks, a locker can be your home-away-from-home. We like to be uber prepared for a long day at Disney (Brad is an Eagle Scout, he likes to be ready for anything!). But that makes for a heavy, bulky park bag, which inevitably leads to a sweaty, sore back. A locker keeps our stuff safe and dry, leaving us unfettered while we tour the parks.

With the bulk of our stuff stashed away in a locker, I hang on to a small wristlet for incidentals like a little cash, chapstick, a few bandaids, and of course the locker key.

When it’s time to reapply sunscreen or change for a water ride, we just head back to the locker. Easy peasy. We find it’s easier to walk out of our way once in a while than to lug around all our stuff all day long.

If you rent a locker and park hop, just bring your receipt to the next park to get another for free, you just pay the $5 deposit (returned when you turn in the key). Locker availability is done on a "first come first served" basis, so be aware that you're not guaranteed a locker if you park hop -- but we've never been turned away! Guests must return the locker key within one hour after park closing to get the $5 deposit back.

You should note also that not all lockers are made the same. Large lockers are $10 for the day and measure 17.5"tall x 12"wide x 16" deep. Smaller lockers are cost $8 a day and are 11"tall x 9"wide x 16" deep. We've rented both sizes, and while it's a snug fit, even our stuffed backpack will fit in the small locker, so worry not.

Locker locations are:

Magic Kingdom- to the right immediately inside the gate

Epcot- to the right of Spaceship Earth as you enter the park, and at the International Gateway

(We like the International Gateway location because we spend most of our Epcot days in World Showcase)

Hollywood Studios- straight ahead just inside the gate

Animal Kingdom- to the left immediately inside the gate
